With a DVI to VGA has absolutely nothing to improve the image.
Why? The DVI port on the computer is actually a DVI-I, which can be sent as a DVI digital and analog VGA. If you pass a DVI to VGA adapter, simply a VGA signal available. What exactly the same as the VGA cable that you will now be used.
Want to go to a digital connection, you need an HDMI to DVI cable. This allows you to connect your computer to the DVI connector to HDMI for HDTV digital video connection.
There is a difference! However, the card will not be cut. It is still, even with a VGA adapter. The cables are different.
